DEBATE COMPETITION (KOMBAT) 2019: ” The Role of Millennials in Managing Indonesia’s Sustainable Development in 2030″

2019 Debate Competition (KOMBAT) is one of the activities organized by the Economics and Business Student Study Circle (LSME) of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Brawijaya. The activity is motivated by responsiveness to the demographic bonus that will occur in Indonesia in 2030. The demographic bonus that will occur is in the era of globalization which requires the millennial generation to have new ideas in overcoming challenges in the future and to realize sustainable development. In this case, improving the quality of human resources for students as the millennial generation through knowledge, skills and expertise is needed. The Economic and Business Student Study Circle (LSME) contributed to responding to the problem based on one of the contents of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, the agent of change. The contribution made is to provide a competitive forum as a scientific tool for student self-development, namely by holding a 2019 Debate Competition (KOMBAT). KOMBAT 2019 provides a forum for students to channel their aspirations through arguments. Then the argument will be debated by presenting planned breakthroughs and problem solving. The Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Brawijaya, which is a new member of the LSME, will be the executive committee and assisted by other members. With the big theme ” The Role of Millennials in Managing Indonesia’s Sustainable Development in 2030“, KOMBAT 2019 invites all students throughout Malang to compete in developing innovative ideas to address current issues through smart solutions and responsive solving.

            The series of KOMBAT 2019 events will be held within 2 days, on September 14, 2019 until September 15, 2019. Participants who have registered will compete in each round with one pro team that supports a motion and one counter team that rejects a motion. On the first day (14/09/2019) at 07.30 WIB participants will arrive at Universitas Brawijaya to register. Technical meeting will be held in the D Hall of the Faculty of Economics and Business, to find out the technical explanation of the event and debate sequence number.Then at 1:00 p.m. in the Class D Class of the Faculty of Economics, it will be followed by a preliminary round, 1 team will conduct one debate with another team, 8 teams with the highest score in this round can proceed to the quarter-finals. On the second day (15/09/2019) at 08.00 WIB in Class D, the participants continued the quarter-finals. There are 4 matches in this round, one team will be taken as the winner to proceed to the semifinals at 12.10 WIB There are 2 matches which each team will be taken as the winner to proceed to the grand final at 16.00 WIB, while the other two teams will compete for the third place. The evaluation of the debate in the grand final was to use Impromptu Motions, the team that won this match won 1st place and the opposing team won 2nd place. Finally, at 16.45 WIB an awarding session will be held which will present all participants as well as closing the event as a sign that KOMBAT 2019 has finished. Through this activity, it is hoped that many ideas will emerge from Indonesian youth to contribute to development. The equator is an event that provides a forum for students throughout Indonesia to contribute scientific ideas and write for the progress of the nation.

 Through this activity, it is expected that there will be a lot of ideas from students throughout Malang to contribute to development. KOMBAT 2019 is an event that provides a forum for students to contribute arguments and thoughts for the progress of the nation.
