The improvement of the Indonesian economy can be seen from the economic growth in each year. By comparing the growth of each year can be analyzed that whether the Indonesian economy has increased or even decreased. The weak global economic growth of 2015 has affected Indonesia with growth of only 4.8% last year. Indonesia’s economic growth in 2015 is good enough for commodity-exporting countries, but not enough to absorb some three million youths in the labor force, nor is it enough to reverse the slowing trend of poverty reduction (www.worldbank.org, March 15, 2016).

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said “In the long term the Indonesian economy will continue to grow above seven percent”. Such high growth should be anticipated because every time Indonesia goes into periods of high growth or above seven percent then the economy of Indonesia experienced the so-called overheating (liputan6.com, Thursday 26 May 2016). The World Bank predicts that Indonesia will grow 5.1% in 2016 and 5.3% in 2017, although this figure represents an improvement of 4.8% in 2015, the World Bank said that economic growth in Indonesia depends on government economic policy. This World Bank projection is different from the Indonesian government’s target. According to Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, the government will keep economic growth steady at 5.3% and the rupiah remains at around Rp 13,400.00 per US $ 1 (www.bbc.com, 2016).

In connection with the above phenomenon and case, it is necessary creative solutions for the improvement of the Indonesian economy. We as a Scientific and Information Scientific Institution (LPII) provide a forum for all students in Indonesia to provide creative solutions through Scientific Writing Competition (LKTI) that we carry with the theme “Improving the Indonesian Economy in the ASEAN Region”.

The purpose of the implementation of this activity is to increase students’ critical thinking in dealing with various economic problems in the community and Providing thought contribution for the government in solving various problems of the nation, especially in the field of economy. The theme of this activity is “Improving the Indonesian Economy in the ASEAN Region”. This activity is in the form of a competition of scientific papers between students nationwide, which there are several stages that need to be passed. That is the stage of delivery of full paper and semifinal stage or presentation in front of the jury and finalist session (15) which then presents his ideas back in front of the jury. This activity is named Increadible Research and National Competition (Instinct) 2017. This activity will be held on April 12 until April 16, 2017.
